The Hoito had very poor service. The service was rude and unpleasant. The food was fresh, but the plate and cutlery still had leftover food from a previous meal stuck on them. The atmosphere was dirty and the overall experience was unpleasant.

How Can THis Restaurant Get 1 star from the first individual? This Place is well known for great Pancakes and everything else it makes in it's restaurant. This place makes Thunder Bay proud and your probably the only one who doesnt like it.

I think that the Hoito is over rated....the hidden gem is the Scandanavian House restaurant that is just around the corner on Algoma st. Even though the acoustics are pretty bad, making it seem overly noisy when its busy, the food is fantastic. Great Finnish pancakes, baking and lunch or breakfast specials everyday. Staff are friendly and service is great. There are long line ups t to get in Sat mornings and they are not open on Sunday, which is too bad.

Not exactly haute cuisine but is, for whatever reason, legendary in Thunder Bay. The atmosphere is low key, service unremarkable but the food is hearty and good value.

Wow, while visiting your city I was told I HAD to visit your treasure, the Hoito. Well that was the worst advice I have ever recieved in my life. Why would you consider linning up for a half an hour to sit in a smelly, dirty, loud basement with rude servers and filthy utensils a tradition? The food was nothing to write home about and certainly not worth the time waited nor did it make up for the atmosphere. Sorry Thunder Bay, you guys need to get out more and experience life if that is something you are proud of.
